The Return of Personality: 5 Design Trends We Spotted at High Point Market
Animal prints, bold patterns, beautiful textures, and the return of classic details. Here's what caught our eye at Fall High Point Market 2026.
Every fall, our team looks forward to heading to High Point Market in North Carolina, one of the largest home furnishings markets in the world. It's an opportunity to discover new collections, reconnect with our favorite vendors, explore emerging trends, and, most importantly, find fresh inspiration to bring back to our clients.
This October, one thing became very clear: Personality is making a comeback in a big way.
We're seeing a shift toward interiors that feel more layered, expressive, and collected. Think bold patterns, unexpected fabric combinations, rich textures, and traditional details reimagined for today's homes.
And while we always appreciate a beautiful neutral palette, we're excited to see designers embracing a little more personality and playfulness.
Here are five trends that caught our attention at this year's market.
1. A Little Wild: Animal Prints Are Everywhere
Leopard, zebra, and other animal-inspired prints were impossible to ignore this season, and we're here for it!
What we love most is how these prints are being incorporated into sophisticated, beautifully curated spaces. Rather than dominating a room, they're being used as unexpected accents that bring personality and a little bit of fun. A leopard-print chair in an otherwise classic living room? Absolutely. A subtle animal print mixed with stripes or florals? Even better.
Animal prints have long been considered a decorating classic, and we're loving their renewed popularity.
2. Bold Patterns Are Making a Statement
For years, interiors have leaned heavily into quiet neutrals and understated fabrics. While those will always have their place, this market reminded us how much we love a beautiful pattern.
We spotted statement florals, oversized prints, interesting geometrics, and fabrics with a little more attitude. Whether it's a patterned accent chair, a beautiful upholstered ottoman, or a bold fabric on a sofa, these pieces can bring an entirely new energy to a space.
The key is finding the right balance. A statement pattern can feel timeless when it's thoughtfully paired with classic furnishings and complementary colors.
3. Pattern Play: More Is More (When Done Right)
One of our favorite takeaways from market was the art of mixing patterns. Stripes paired with florals. Checks layered with animal prints. Different scales and textures working together in ways that feel interesting rather than overwhelming.
We love this approach because it creates rooms that feel as though they've evolved over time.
The secret to successful pattern mixing is having a common thread, whether that's a shared color palette, a complementary scale, or a balance between bold and subtle. When done well, the result is a space that feels collected, personal, and effortlessly sophisticated.
And isn't that what we all want our homes to feel like?
4. Texture, Texture, and More Texture
If there was one thing we wanted to reach out and touch at market, it was everything!
Beautiful woven fabrics, dimensional upholstery, rich velvets, interesting wood finishes, and tactile materials were everywhere. Texture has always played an important role in our designs, but we're seeing it become even more prominent.
It's particularly important when working with a softer or more neutral color palette. Mixing different textures creates depth and visual interest without necessarily introducing additional color. A beautifully textured sofa, a woven accent chair, or a dimensional fabric can completely transform how a room feels.
It's those subtle layers that often make a space feel truly special.
5. Everything Old Is New Again: The Return of Skirted Furniture
This might be one of our favorite trends from market!
Skirted furniture is officially having a moment, and we couldn't be happier. From sofas and accent chairs to ottomans, we're seeing a return to this classic upholstery detail, but with a fresh, updated approach. Think tailored skirts, beautiful proportions, and sophisticated fabrics rather than overly fussy or formal silhouettes.
There's something wonderfully timeless about a skirted piece. It softens a room, adds a sense of elegance, and brings a nod to traditional design without feeling dated.
For those of us who appreciate a little Southern charm mixed with a modern sensibility, this trend feels especially fitting.
Our Biggest Takeaway: Timeless Design With Personality
If there's one thing we walked away with from High Point Market, it's that interiors are becoming more personal again. We're seeing a beautiful marriage of traditional design elements and fresh, contemporary interpretations. Rooms are feeling warmer, more layered, and less predictable. And we love that.
At Tonya Maggio Interiors, we've always believed that a home should reflect the people who live in it. Trends can certainly inspire us, but they should never dictate every design decision. Our approach is to incorporate the elements we love in a way that feels authentic to each client, balancing timeless design with unexpected details that make a space memorable.
Sometimes that's a bold patterned chair. Sometimes it's a beautiful skirted sofa. And sometimes it's simply mixing fabrics and textures in a way you might not have considered before.
The best interiors aren't necessarily the ones that follow every trend. They're the ones that tell a story.
We returned from High Point feeling inspired, with plenty of fresh ideas and beautiful finds we're excited to incorporate into upcoming projects.
And we can't wait to share more!
